Briar’s Creek features an award-winning Rees Jones course

Johns Island, South Carolina – September 22, 2008

Real estate like that on which Briar’s Creek, an exclusive South Carolina retreat, is located is something special indeed.  As the saying goes, they just aren’t making anything like it anymore.

Tucked in the nature-rich Lowcountry of the southeast corner of the Palmetto State, Briar’s Creek ambles easily over 900 acres of some of the most pristine land to be found anywhere.  It’s difficult to imagine that a community imbued with such a sense of the natural world can only be minutes from the hustle, bustle, and culture-rich beauty of downtown Charleston.

The finishing touches are being put on Briar’s Creek, which offers heavily-wooded home sites, many of which possess frontage on the community’s private lake, canals, or Briar’s Creek itself.  The community recently opened a charming clubhouse nestled between the ninth and 18th greens of a fabulous, 7,117-yard Rees Jones golf course that was voted the top new private course by Golf Digest in 2002.

Ground will be broken by year’s end on a Nature Center adjacent to the 53-acre Lake Sharon, which will be a focal point of amenities such as fitness, tennis, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. There are also miles of hiking trails on the property.

“We have kept the other amenities separate from our golf course,” says Chuck Dennis, director of real estate for the community. “And there will only be seven homes on the golf course, which means when you play golf, that’s what you see, the golf course.”

Sales have been brisk, says Dennis.

“Comparing the period January through July of 2007 and January through July of this year, our sales of homesites has almost doubled.  We have 11 new homesites offered for purchase now, with another 15 to 20 to be released in 2009 as the final offering.”

Homesites are from one to three acres, and range between $400,000 and $1 million.  Upon completion, Briar’s Creek will have just 115 homes, making it a limited and one-of-a-kind opportunity.

So far, many of the residents who have bought their little bit of paradise at Briar’s Creek are from the Northeast, South Florida, and the Charlotte and Atlanta areas.

A full-time concierge has been added to the staff to assist residents and guests with any task, from making dinner reservations to scheduling a fishing trip.
